Geraint out in the Snowdonia capturing images of the Welsh countryside

I first picked up a camera at the age of seven...

“I think it’s fair to say my clients choose me because they like my relaxed approach and the way I capture moments. I get a lot of repeat custom for my landscapes and this means a great deal to me.”

Geraint Thomas, Photographer

Geraint Thomas is a professional, multi-disciplined photographer, based in Caernarfon, North Wales.

“I first picked up a camera at the age of seven, and knew from early on that I wanted to become a photographer. I’ve been taking photographs now for 30 years, and professionally for the last five years.”

Geraint spent 12 years working in film and television, and feels that this gives his photography an ‘edge’ over many contemporary photographers.

“I try to tell a story with my photographs; whether it’s the story of the couple in the wedding album, or the story of the landscape. I don’t aspire to formality or stuffiness. When somebody looks back on their wedding photographs I want them to see themselves as they were on their day; it’s an honest approach to capturing memories and is something I also aim for with my approach to portraiture.”

Living and working in North Wales, amongst its landscape and people is something he feels has influenced his work and his approach.

“North Wales has a fantastic variety of landscapes, from the ruggedness of the mountains to the changing nature of the sea. I am inspired by the landscape and light of Snowdonia, the Llyn and Anglesey.”

“I enjoy my work; I enjoy the variety and the diversity. From the gregarious nature of weddings and the social interaction with people, to the absolute solidarity of landscape photography, no two days are the same.”

Geraint’s gallery is based in Palace Street in Caernarfon. The gallery displays a good range of landscapes and he is happy to discuss wedding portrait commissions. The gallery also offers printing and mounting services to exhibition standards.

His work can soon be seen in print in two books of Welsh landscapes photography to be published in 2011:

‘The Lakes of Snowdonia’ and ‘100 Best Views in Wales’ (a collaboration with Professor Gwyn Thomas).
